About
Where every family belongs
The Together Space is a social enterprise creating experiences where disabled and non-disabled children, young people and families can play, create, exercise, socialise and belong together.
Our mission is to challenge the social segregation experienced by disabled people and their families. We want to help create a world where disabled and non-disabled children grow up alongside one another, form friendships, understand and communicate with each other and celebrate difference.
Some of our activities are designed specifically for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), giving them the support, understanding and freedom to thrive. Others bring disabled and non-disabled children, young people and families together to share experiences, have fun and feel part of the same community.
We run inclusive family events, holiday schemes, fitness sessions, performing arts programmes, youth clubs and social activities in Walthamstow.
Creating meaningful, fairly paid employment opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities is also an important part of our mission. Our young adult employees work across our events and activities, develop their skills and confidence and play an active role in shaping The Together Space community. All roles are paid at least the London Living Wage.
Our story
The idea for The Together Space was inspired by my eldest daughter and by the journey that my husband, our three children and I continue to share as a family.
I have experienced first-hand how easily disabled children and their families can become socially segregated - not because families don’t want to mix, but because so many everyday spaces and activities aren’t designed with everyone in mind.
I started The Together Space because I wanted to create the kind of community I wished existed for our family: somewhere people feel safe, supported and understood, but also somewhere disabled and non-disabled people can meet naturally, build relationships and enjoy being together.
Above all, The Together Space is somewhere every family can feel comfortable, valued and able to belong - without stigma, awkwardness or having to explain themselves.
I hope to meet you at The Together Space soon.
